Tom Dolle Curates "Selling the Dream" September 2001
The Pratt Gallery at the Puck Building was the scene of a unique show on historic car brochures of the 1950’s and 1960’s. For millions of upwardly-mobile consumers following WWII, living the American Dream meant buying a new car. Automobile manufacturers hired the best talent on Madison Avenue to create the glamor and excitement that fueled a multi-billion dollar industry. This exhibit, from Tom Dolle’s personal collection of original brochures of the era, demonstrates how print media helped influence the styles, tastes and excesses of a unique period in consumer history.
